█ LOTTE Chemical Advanced Materials President Lee Young-joon, “We will continuously pursue additional performance improvement that can reduce floor noises

in apartments even more”… ”We also have plans to develop technologies that can be applied in shock absorbers using recycled plastic”

LOTTE Chemical developed floor noise absorbers using the eco-friendly material, EPP (Expanded PolyPropylene).

Floor noises in apartments have become serious social issues causing conflicts between residents, and the government strengthened noise standards between floors in August, while implementing measures such as post-verification systems.

Even before the standards were strengthened, LOTTE Chemical entered a joint development agreement in March of last year with LOTTE Construction and EPS Korea, which specializes in buffering materials, to develop floor noise absorbers. The developed noise absorber passed the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s ‘Apartment floor noise blocking structure review’ and procured performance for both light and heavy weights in the strengthened measurement standards.

This new jointly developed floor noise absorber was designed by strengthening the eco-friendly EPP produced by LOTTE Chemical to be suitable for reducing noises between floors.

EPP strengthened the features of existing Styrofoam making it strong against impact and does not cause harmful substances, and it is also easy to recycle. When used as construction materials, it is eco-friendly compared to existing Styrofoam or urethane foam, and it also has outstanding recovery and heat-resistance, making it a stable material without changes in properties even after long use. It has 1/10 of smoke compared to Styrofoam during fires, and it also does not generate toxic substances, making it safer against fires.

LOTTE Chemical Advanced Materials President Lee Young-joon stated, “This floor noise absorber applied floor noise reduction technologies that go beyond the limitations of existing EPP through proprietary materials and mold process development that can improve elasticity of EPP together with our partners,” and added, “LOTTE Chemical will continuously pursue additional performance improvement that can reduce floor noises in apartments even more, and we also have plans to develop technologies that can be applied in shock absorbers using recycled plastic.”
