Implementation guidelines

    • LOTTE Chemical has established the company-wide green management system in accordance with its green management policy and implemented it in its business activities. We fulfill our social responsibilities by saving and efficiently using resources and energy to minimize greenhouse gas emission and environmental pollution. Moreover, LOTTE Chemical has established detailed strategies and targets and regularly monitor improvement activities.
    • Green Management System
    • LOTTE Chemical has a strategic and proactive system in place to respond to global climate change regulations and domestic laws.
      • Response to Climate Change1

        Implementation and Operation of GEMS

Implementation of the petrochemical industry’s first SAP-based GEMS in 2010

An integrated control system to analyze and manage data on the potential reduction of greenhouse gas emission, inventory, performance management, and compliance with related laws

Preliminary analysis of risks related to climate change to use it as the opportunity for cost reduction and low-carbon green growth

        * GEMS: Greenhouse Gas & Energy Management System

      • Response to Climate Change2

Participation in the Network for Climate Change

Participation in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate Change

Disclosure of greenhouse gas emission and the performance results of climate change response

      • Response to Climate Change3

        Management of Greenhouse Gas Emission

Management, energy diagnosis by an external agency, and reduction of greenhouse gas and energy on the field through GEMS

Management of energy usage related to greenhouse gas emission in two categories: direct and indirect energy sources

Generation of annual usage plan and regular monitoring of actual usage

Field inspection and campaign programs to spread the culture of energy saving

    • LOTTE Chemical conducts the internal surveillance activities and monitoring through the Tele-Monitoring System (TMS) to minimize the adverse effects on the environment arising from the production process.
LOTTE Chemical complies with both domestic and international environmental laws and regulations and applies the standards that are stricter than acceptable standards.
    • Air Pollutant Control

24-hour environmental surveillance by installing TMS where needed

Building the optimal preventive facilities such as the regenerative thermal oxidizer (RTO)

Installation of a sealed system to prevent the discharge of pollutants into the atmosphere

    • Water Pollutants Control

Operation of wastewater treatment plants in the workplaces for systematic management of water pollutants

Introduction of effective measures such as TMS and wastewater terminal disposal plant in the industrial complex

Carrying out water saving programs and the introduction of the water recycling system

    • Harmful Chemical Substance Management

Installation of detectors and equipment to prevent the discharge of harmful chemical substances

Strict management through regular inspection/assessment and education/training

    • Waste Management

Strengthening education to spread the awareness that “waste is a resource.”

Reduction of waste and conversion of waste to resources through improvements of process and facility

Tracking of the source of waste and cause of its generation by introducing the real-name waste disposal system

Minimization of waste generation by continuous process improvements and facility investment

Continuous efforts to increase the rate of converting wastes into resources
