The LOTTE Group Chemical Unit held the '2nd R&D Conference’ by inviting over 100 master’s and doctorate’s degree-level researchers in science and engineering from major universities in Korea at the Jamsil LOTTE World Tower SKY31 Convention on the 18th.

The R&D Conference is an event held for future human resources in master’s and doctorate’s degree programs at major universities in order to attract superior R&D personnel by sharing the technologies of the chemical unit and sharing future visions.

Approximately 100 people such as the CEOs of each chemical unity company, technology researchers, and students in master’s and doctorate’s degree programs attended this conference, and this is more than double the size of the previous event held in April.

The R&D Conference was held in the three sessions of ‘Opening/R&D/Networking’.

▲In the opening session, President & CEO Kim Gyo Hyun gave the keynote address on the R&D direction and will to secure talented human resources in the chemical unit. ▲In the R&D session, twelve presentations on four themes (eco-friendly/hydrogen/battery materials/new materials) were made by researchers at the chemical unit, and attendees were given the option to choose the presentation they wanted to listen to according to their interests and preferences. ▲In the networking session, attendees were given the time to communicate freely on company life, research fields, careers, etc. with mentor researchers in a casual atmosphere.

In particular, LOTTE Chemical began full operation of ‘Project LINK’ (LOTTE Innovation Network), which is an organization made with plans to preemptively secure future technologies and expand technologies needed for the company through open innovation research activities with universities, research institutes, companies, and experts in August of last year. This event was received well among participants by operating a two-directional communication program where the master’s/doctorate’s program students could gain sympathize with and understand the future new industry technologies of the LOTTE Group Chemical Unit that had expanded its portfolio to high-value specialty businesses and eco-friendly businesses such as Hydrogen Energy, Battery Materials, Recycled/Bio plastics, etc.

LOTTE Group Chemical Unit President & CEO Kim Gyo Hyun, “It is essential to secure capable and outstanding human resources to expand new businesses and gain superiority in advanced technologies early on”, and added, “We will continue various talent discovery activities not only in Korea, but also internationally, including women and youths, etc. for future growth.”

Meanwhile, the LOTTE Group Chemical Unit held an employment seminar at 14 major universities in the US to secure outstanding human resources back in September. Global recruiting is being held every year abroad to foster outstanding human resources for future businesses, and various other activities are also being carried out in Korea such as expanding industry-academic cooperation with major domestic universities, as well as R&D conferences.
